CIML Central Conference

Ankeny- The Hawks have a great logo, that includes the city letter (A) and some hawk wings. This is one of the more original logos in the whole CIML. The front runner for best conference logo, if not the best in the state.

Grade: A

West Des Moines Dowling- The Maroons show great class with their logo. Maroon is derived from the French word marron (chestnut), but also describes a color. Dowling does not have a letter or a picture of a chestnut in their logo, but this one if full of tradition and value.

Grade: B

Indianola- The Indians did a very nice job with sticking to their original logo when it seemed like every native nicknamed team was changing theirs. It incorporates the city/school name and part of the team logo (feathers).

Grade: B

Johnston- The Dragons have an innovative logo. Their mascot is depicted here being tenacious and fierce. It's a definite upgrade from the dragon wrapped around the "J" and should be the logo for years to come.

Grade: B-

Urbandale- This high school logo has had some media attention much like Waukee's "W." The "J-Hawk" as Urbandale likes to call it, is name with a hyphen because the University of Kansas had some "problems" with the logo and the name. If Kansas has problems with it, then we do too.

Grade: F

Southeast Polk- Don't you think you could have come up with something more original?? We know you are a high school and that coming up with your own logo often means changing just a few things from a college/university (i.e. Colorado State University). The diamond has no (obvious) significance and the ram is just a normal ram. At the least it could have been popping out of the diamond...

Grade: F

Logo Ranking Criteria

www.logorank.blogspot.com is a website originating in West Des Moines, Iowa. This website will try and cover ALL Iowa High School athletic logo’s before going to colleges and universities. Once those are completed, then and only then, logorank.blogspot.com will attempt to rank the professional sports.

Before we go any further into the realm of ranking logo’s we thought we should share our criteria on how we grade out every logo that will grace this blog.

Letters: The use of single letters or letters that abbreviate your school, city, or mascot name (while being shown alone) are automatically given a C- grade or lower. This is solely based on the fact that creativity is a must when creating a logo.

Copying: When creating your logo if you copy a school/team it is an automatic F grade. This is much like school, when you plagiarize and get caught you get expelled.

Originality: If a logo is unique in some way, shape or form, then it will receive a high grade. Simple as that. (This is always subject to our taste of course)

Mascot: If the mascot is the logo or is inserted in the logo then the logo itself will receive a high grade. It’s always nice when you can intertwine your mascot with your school/team.

Logorank.blogspot.com will try as fast as they possibly can to post conferences and logos.

CIML Iowa Conference Logo Rank

Marshalltown- The Bobcats top this list and contend for best CIML logo. Originality points awarded here.
Grade: B+

Ames- It would be pretty easy to go out and copy a logo from the local university. Ames found a happy medium and didn't include a red bird. They get points just for that.
Grade: C+

Valley- The Tigers have shown a knack for winning over the years. This bold "V" has become a symbol for victory.
Grade: C+

Fort Dodge- The cursive writing is the only thing that makes this logo third.
Grade: C

Mason City- The Mohawks went from a scary skinhead to something made in a kindergarten finger art class. Much like their athletic programs.
Grade: D

Waukee- The Warriors went out and copied the University of Wisconsin's logo and got caught. This compromise is even worse.
Grade: F
